To use an Aluminum wheelchair, first ensure the brakes are locked and footplates are positioned correctly for safe transfers in and out of the chair. To propel, push the large rear wheel rims forward to move and pull them back to reverse. For steering, apply gentle pressure to turn by guiding the wheels. For transport, ensure you know how to engage the handbrakes and use the designated levers to fold the chair for storage or travel.

For Self-Propelled Wheelchairs

1. Set Up the Chair:

Unfold the wheelchair and secure the seat rails until they lock into place. Make sure the footrests are correctly installed and adjusted for comfort. 

2. Prepare to Transfer:

Lock the brakes by pushing the brake handles forward until they engage, ensuring the chair is stable. Position the footplates out of the way for easy access. 

3. Propel:

Grasp the large rear wheel rims and push them forward to move, or pull them back to reverse. 

4. Steer:

To turn, hold the rim of the wheel on the side you want to turn to, then propel the opposite wheel forward. 

5. Stop:

Engage the handbrakes by pushing the brake handles forward to lock the wheels. 

For Transport Wheelchairs (Attendant-Propelled)

1. Set Up:

Attach and adjust the footrests so they swing away or flip up for easy entry. 

2. Propel:

Hold the push handles at the back of the chair and gently push the chair forward to move. 

3. Steer:

The small front wheels provide flexible steering, allowing for easy movement in tight spaces. 

4. Stop:

Use the handbrakes to stop or lock the wheelchair on slopes or uneven surfaces. 

5. Transfer:

Ensure the brakes are locked and the footrests are moved out of the way when getting on or off the chair. 

Safety and Storage

Brakes:

Always ensure the handbrakes are engaged before transferring on or off the chair to prevent accidental movement. 

Folding:

To fold for transport, typically pull up the locks and fold down the back support. 

Transfers:

Use the armrests for support when getting in or out of the chair, ensuring footplates are out of the way.
