Steel commode chair with castor.
Detachable armrest.
To use a commode chair, adjust its height so your feet are flat on the floor with knees at 90 degrees, place it on a stable, level surface (or over a toilet), then sit slowly using the armrests for support, and lean slightly forward while seated to support your back. To stand, push up using both armrests, ensuring equal pressure to prevent tipping, and move slowly. Clean the commode and its bucket regularly with soap and water after use.
1. Adjust the Commode
Height:
Adjust the legs so that when you sit on the commode, your feet can rest flat on the floor and your knees are bent at a 90-degree angle.
Stability:
Ensure the commode is stable on a dry, level surface. If using it bedside, position it against a wall or furniture for added stability.
2. Preparing for Use
Bedside Use:
Place the commode next to the bed. Insert the bucket and place a disposable liner inside it if desired.
Over-the-Toilet Use:
Remove the bucket and center the commode frame directly over the toilet. A splash guard may be helpful to direct urine into the toilet.
3. Sitting Down
Position:
Back up to the commode until you feel the back of the commode against the back of your legs.
Transfer:
Reach back and grasp the handles (armrests) of the commode with both hands.
Sit Slowly:
Lean forward slightly and slowly lower yourself to the seat, ensuring you sit in the center to avoid tipping.
4. Standing Up
Push Up: Place both hands on the commode's armrests.
Stand Carefully: Push down on the armrests to stand up, ensuring your feet are flat and underneath you.
Balance: Once standing, move away from the commode slowly and ensure you have your balance before walking.
5. Cleaning and Maintenance
After Each Use:
After using the commode, put on gloves, clean the user's bottom with toilet paper, wipes, or soap and water, and dry gently.
Empty & Disinfect:
Remove the bucket and empty its contents into the toilet. Clean the bucket and seat with a germ-killing cleanser and water. Rinse well before putting it back.
Regular Checks:
Routinely inspect the commode's rubber tips for wear or brittleness, and check for any loose hardware.
